Class Descriptions
Adventures in Animation
Explore the wide world of stop-motion animation with CinemaKidz! Children utilize a variety of materials to build props, characters, and fantastical mini-movie sets to feature in original stop-motion animation films. Experiment with combining live action with animation, as well as effects like drawing on each frame, and utilizing green screens and stock footage. Children learn to create their own sounds and special effects to add to their shorts as they work in post-production finishing their animated shorts. Kids will explore various stop-motion and digital animation techniques, and create a variety of both 2D as well as 3D projects.
Junior Reporters
Participants will learn to produce their very own original School News Show! Together, kids will plan art direction and build a news room set, storyboard and plan ideas and segments for their News Show, film and work on set, act in, edit, and finally publish several News Shows for the school community. Participants will develop and plan a unique structure for the Show, and learn how to create episodes that focus on: researching relevant school topics, interviewing teachers and community members, writing and producing narrative skit elements, weather reports, sports news, and more. Participants will utilize a variety of filmmaking equipment including: green screens, dollies, tripods, lights, gels, cameras, various microphone setups and more advanced editing techniques and software. Students will receive a CK press badge and be loaned recording devices to interview students and teachers throughout their school days as well.
Puppetry Skits
This course is all about creative building, storytelling, and working together to make a TV Show! Over this hands-on course, children will build several types of puppets, and utilize film technology to bring their characters to life in a series of fun short skits. Think projects like The Dark Crystal to Sesame Street! Kidz explore different puppetry styles, creating several exciting puppets of their own, and learn to bring their character to life with basic puppet manipulation, voice acting, and interactive storytelling! Kidz will learn how important working together is when they help one another create scenes. Kidz work together to manipulate the movements of their puppet, while others film and act out the scene using their voice, as well as act in the skits themselves. Participants will experiment with various creative techniques to film these skits, using green screens and stop motion to name a few. After production wraps, children will take home the puppets they made, and an original Puppet show!
